Gardens are about people & place – people are complicated – place should therefore be simple, the designers ego unseen. Japanese & Scandinavian design is much admired by Ian Wallace because of; its restraint and economy of means – simple forms and natural materials rather than elaboration and artifice; the use of texture, light and shadow rather than pattern and ornament. Richness comes in the attention to detail, awareness of place, and creation of a unique designer garden.
